Fear of a Bot Planet
Sometimes Futurama really does do a great job sneaking in the nerdy references. First, they reinforce the robot racism satire aspect of the episode by referencing Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet in the title (sidebar: if you ever have a chance to see Public Enemy live, DO IT, they’re awesome.) Second, they reference the man who coined the word ‘robot’ by naming a planet after him: The word ‘robot’ was first introduced in the play Rossum’s Universal Robots by Czech writer Karel Čapek (pronounced Chapek.) So, in Fear of a Bot Planet, the name of the planet inhabited solely by robots is Chapek 9! I might have gotten unnecessarily excited about it. I might also love robots too much.
