French Camp
Last night was French Camp’s album release party in Williamsburg. The Brooklyn band is comprised of former residents of Charleston, SC who are very talented and all-around sweet individuals. I’ve seen these guys play in various musical incarnations over the years and I always enjoy them as people and musicians (I have fond memories of one of them on an extended Lost marathon on my...

neutri-nope
So, it turns out the neutrino results that caused so much uproar in the physics community might be attributed to a faulty cable. I hope you guys didn’t throw out your Einstein posters prematurely. Still, to refute a century’s worth of physics in one go was pretty exciting to think about. Looks like relativity is here to stay.
Stephen Hawking is a big fan of private sex clubs....
iheartchaos:
Stephen Hawking is a fan of science, obviously. But the theoretical physicist is also apparently a fan of private sex clubs. Because when you spend all day trapped in your barely functioning body thinking about the universe, you deserve a little slap and tickle from professional ladies of the trade. I just hope they give it to him for free.

How To Archer by Sterling Archer
Obviously, I need this: The back of the book:
“Hi. I see you’re reading the back of my book. This tells me that you either:
A) are hoping to find a brief summary of what to expect from a how-to book by Sterling Archer, the world’s greatest secret agent, or B) don’t know how books work.
If your answer was “A,” your best bet is probably the table of contents, which is where you’ll...
The World's Oldest "Yo Mama" Joke is 3,500 Years... →
A tablet inscribed with riddles from 1,500 BCE includes the Babylonian equivalent of a ‘yo mama’ joke! I’m using this to attribute my overabundant use of ‘that’s what she said’ and ‘I heard that about you’ jokes to genetics. Ten points to humanity.

Fear of a Bot Planet
Sometimes Futurama really does do a great job sneaking in the nerdy references. First, they reinforce the robot racism satire aspect of the episode by referencing Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet in the title (sidebar: if you ever have a chance to see Public Enemy live, DO IT, they’re awesome.) Second, they reference the man who coined the word ‘robot’ by naming a...

Fred Eerdekens
Short Story (A very short story with a lot of fiction in the middle and something real in the end)

In a name
Still My emotions escaped from language
Fred Eerdekens is a Belgian artist who combines text, light projection and sculpture for a very cool interplay where the text is only revealed by viewing the shadow of the light on the sculpture at the perfect angle. Sometimes you have...

The Periodic Table of Cupcakes
I want to high-five whoever made these.
When I showed this to my roommate, he asked me which elemental cupcake I would choose if only given one choice. My initial response was Au (Gold, you know, because I’m a Baller.) But with a little more thought, I’m torn between: Gold (again, BALLER), Carbon (the basis for all life, the graphite in your art supplies, and the diamond in your...

Nicolas Jaar |+1| Pitchfork.tv
Pitchfork did a much better job encapsulating the Nicolas Jaar event at PS1 than I did. This is another video of the multidisciplinary performance featuring Jaar in the geodesic dome.
I’m very glad I went to this (and lucky that some nice fellow pulled me out of line with a free ticket so I didn’t have to wait in line or pay.) Second only to Jaar being a bit of a fox, the guy...

Reasons I Love My Neighborhood
Last night I went out with my friend Rose to this bar by my house that I consider one of the best kept secrets in Bushwick (while I will not reveal its name, I will say that it is in the vicinity of Maria Hernandez park.) I stumbled in here on accident once and the owner was not only beyond accommodating to my gluten allergy but he cooks the best falafel I’ve ever had, makes food til all...

The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it.
– Neil deGrasse Tyson (via crownedrose)
for the record:
I know how to spell Schrödinger correctly. I love my tumblr theme but it irks me to no end that the titles won’t include special characters. If you follow me and see my posts on your dashboard it will show up correctly but if you are on my tumblr page it omits the umlaut and the ‘o’ altogether.

Use Schrödinger’s Cat To Make The Tough Decisions

Let’s face it: it’s hard to be an executive. You have to make hard decisions, like whether to get the vanilla latte from the coffee shop down the street. If you’re weary of making the calls, you can now hand your fate over to a cat in a box. All you have to do...
